ISF Guidance For Foreign Exporters/Suppliers
Simple Tips for ISF (Importer Security Filing) Compliance for Foreign Exporters
As of July 9, 2013 U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is requiring Full Compliance with Importer Security Filing regulations, as part of the SAFE Port Act (Section 203) enacted in 2006.
ISF violations for lateness, inaccurate updates or non-filing may cause importer penalties of up to $10,000 for a single ISF ($5000 for each individual violation).
We recommend the following:
- Require the Bill of Lading Number from the Carrier or Freight Forwarder immediately upon cargo booking.
- Provide the ISF data along with the Bill of Lading Number to the U.S. Importeras soon as the booking confirmation is received
- Provide Updates to shipments and ISF data immediately and in writing to the U.S. Importer
- Implement a “NO ISF-DO NOT SHIP” policy
